Aug 10 : Watercolor Florals: Painting Iris Flower

In this class, you will learn how to sketch or draw an Iris flower by recognizing and breaking it into general shapes, coloring it as well as adding textural effects to the flower using wet-on-wet technique. You will also learn how to determine your focal point when painting the Iris. Focal points are the main feature to which the eyes are led. You will also learn how to draw/paint key lines that will lead to the focal points in helping to bring your Iris composition together. In this class, we will be studying the Bearded Iris and the wonderful color mixes they have. This class is suitable for beginners as we will be covering the basics of sketching shapes, color mixing, blending and application of wet-on-wet technique in painting the petals of the flower.

Farah Bidin is a self-taught artist, educator and founder of Paintstobrushes who live in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. She started her creative journey on calligraphy. Her inspiration hugely inspired by nature and botanicals and the fact that watercolour allows her to capture the freshness of the blooms still blows her mind.
